Resources can be any application, information or computing resource.
Physically resources can be identified to existing hardware, software,
computing clusters, etc.
|
| |
Resources
are activated and controlled by Agents, which provide different
services:
|
 |
Translate
user's "web-clicks" into specific actions to the operating system
or the application Example: |
 |
Convert
the results of these actions into an "XML-compliant" form Example
|
| |

The resource tier uses a plug-in mechanism to provide best integration
with underlying Computing resources. Currently agents are provided
to access:
|
 |
Any
Unix operating system (needs JVM support) |
 |
Platform
LSF (Load Sharing Facility) |
 |
Citrix
Nfuse/Metaframe |
 |
Grid/Globus
infrastructure |

The
base building block of the portal is the Service, which is an XML
representation of any Computing related facility (e.g. a service might
be a FEM solver, a parallel CFD solver, a query to the LSF master
to find my pending jobs, etc.). |
